Geophysical survey indicated that the cemetery area extended beyond the north-south limits of the excavation. All were considered to be contemporaneous and early medieval to medieval in date. Three main areas were identified: a cemetery, agricultural areas to the east and habitation to the west. The site lay in the lowest terrace of the Derrypatrick River within an area of known medieval landscape. Considerable disturbance to the site had occurred prior to any archaeological involvement.
